At six in the morning, it was already sunny and warm. A light breeze kept the air cool.
The strange call of a northern flicker caught my attention as I washed out the terracotta dishes and filled them with cool water, for whatever might need to rest or drink.
The warmth has brought hoverflies, furrow bees, bumblebees, and butterflies into the garden.
I stopped to watch a lady beetle resting on the flowering wild geraniums (Geranium maculatum).
Then back to the office.
Finally 5pm arrived. It was 24°C, though it felt much warmer.
I collected and sorted stones dug up from the yard or left behind by those who lived here before, and stacked each one carefully, breaking the lines between the layers.
Small shady places for spiders, pill bugs, and centipedes. Perhaps even a moth or butterfly will make its home here.
